Settle up

A settlement is an expense, not a reset to zero.

Clearing an account means recording a settlement. It is the only regularisation move, and it opens from the budget concerned or from the home screen.

What to choose

  • Who is paying back — the participant who still owes money
  • Who receives the settlement
  • The amount

If there is nothing to settle, the screen says so: "No open debt requires a settlement in this budget."

The amount is bounded

The form shows the maximum possible and refuses beyond it: "The settlement amount cannot exceed the remaining debt." So an over-generous entry cannot create a reverse balance.

The effect

Once recorded, the settlement enters the calculation like any other expense and the balance updates.

It stays visible: the budget's Debts tab counts settlements and gives their detail. A settlement is a trace, not a deletion.

Settling in instalments

Nothing requires clearing everything at once. Each settlement reduces the balance and stays viewable.
