What triggers a notification
An alert goes out when another participant changes a shared budget. You never receive the notification for your own action.
A second setting enables expense reminders.
Permission is handled by the device
Two separate layers
The phone's system permission and the setting inside Boney are two different things. If permission was denied at system level, the screen says so: "Permission denied at system level. Enable notifications for Boney in the device settings." The Boney setting cannot override it.
Permission is requested once. A refusal is remembered: Boney does not ask again on every launch. To revisit it, re-enable the setting in preferences — the system permission is then re-checked.
On sign-out
The device stops receiving notifications, even if the system permission remains granted.
On a simulator
Push notifications do not work on a simulator — the screen says so rather than letting it look like a fault.
