Set the split

Even, by shares or custom — the budget rule.

A budget's split decides how its expenses are shared between participants. It is a rule, not a line-by-line entry.

It opens from the budget detail, Set the split action.

Three modes

ModeWhat you enterHelper shown
EvenNothingAll participants pay the same share
By sharesA number of shares per personHow many shares for each participant
CustomAn exact percentageThe total must reach 100%

In By shares, percentages are computed and shown as a preview. You think in shares, Boney converts.

In Custom, while the total falls short the screen shows the gap: "The total must be 100% (currently 90%)."

A Split evenly shortcut resets everything.

Locking a share

A share can be locked so it stays put while the others are adjusted.

What it changes

Expenses already recorded do not move

The budget split applies to new expenses. Existing expenses and balances already computed stay as they are.

The zero-share alert

If an active participant sits at 0%, the budget detail flags it: "One or more participants have a 0% share. Adjust the split to include them."

It is almost always a custom split that was not revisited after someone joined.

Permissions

Changing the split requires sufficient rights. Otherwise the screen says so rather than letting you type for nothing.
